THE LAW OF SOWING AND REAPING — Galatians 6:7

Galatians 6:7 (ESV) “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”

Paul has just instructed believers to share all good things with their teachers (v. 6). Now he expands that principle into a universal spiritual law:

Every action is a seed, and every seed produces a harvest.

This connects:

  • generosity (v. 6),

  • personal responsibility (v. 5),

  • burden-bearing (v. 2),

  • and Spirit-led living (5:25).

Paul warns the Galatians not to think they can sow one thing and reap another. The harvest always matches the seed.

“for whatever one sows…”

“Sowing” is the daily planting of choices, habits, attitudes, and actions.

Every person is sowing seeds into one of two fields:

  • the flesh (self-centered living)

  • the Spirit (God-centered living)

Examples of sowing:

  • sow kindness → plant peace

  • sow generosity → plant blessing

  • sow sin → plant corruption

  • sow faith → plant eternal life

“that will he also reap.”

Reaping is the inevitable outcome of what was planted.

The harvest always matches the seed:

  • sow anger → reap conflict

  • sow purity → reap clarity

  • sow greed → reap emptiness

  • sow love → reap joy

  • sow the flesh → reap decay

  • sow the Spirit → reap life

The harvest may take time, but it always comes.

Theological Insight

Galatians 6:7 reveals a foundational truth about God’s world:

The moral universe is structured like a field. Seeds become harvests. Choices become consequences. Habits become destinies.

Grace does not cancel this law — grace redeems it. Through the Spirit, believers can sow righteousness and reap eternal reward.

Practical Application

1️⃣ Examine your seeds

Ask: “What am I planting today — flesh or Spirit?”

2️⃣ Expect a harvest

Every choice has a future.

3️⃣ Sow intentionally

Plant truth, generosity, purity, and faith.

4️⃣ Don’t mock God through hypocrisy

Live honestly before Him.

5️⃣ Trust God’s timing

The harvest may be slow, but it is certain.

Lord Jesus, Guard me from deception. Help me sow seeds of righteousness, kindness, generosity, and faith. Let my life produce a harvest that honors You. Keep me mindful that every choice matters and that Your justice and mercy are sure. Amen.

In Acts 12:23-24, God deals with Herod Agrippa I who was responsible for the death of Apostle James and the imprisonment of Apostle Peter. All of this was done to placate the Jews. I suggest you go back and listen to the entire study of Acts 12 on Spotify (Five Minutes in the Word)! I found it interesting that two historians have completely different versions of death of Agrippa. Josephus says that Agrippa saw an owl sitting over his head, which he recognized as a messenger of evil to him. Eusebius, quoting Josephus Eccl. Hist.,' 2. 10.), leaves out the owl, and says that Agrippa saw an angel sitting over his head, whom he recognized as the cause of his sufferings. (Pulpit Commentary) Jews believed that owls are bringing messages of bad news. They also believe that an angel is assigned to each person Again, this is interesting because Agrippa was a Jew!  Herod knew the word and worship of the living God. But he accepted idolatrous honors without rebuking the blasphemy.

About the Book of Acts

  I began the study of the Book of Acts on October 24, 2022. I'll be sharing some interesting tidbits I learned in my studies.  The Book of Acts is the activity of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus promised His Apostles that we would receive power after the Holy Spirit endues them.  The Holy Spirit came with power upon the believers in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit continued to guide and strengthen the church and its leaders throughout the events reported in the Acts.  He continues to guide and strengthen our lives and churches today.

The Gift of Tongues at Pentecost

Acts 2.  On the day of Pentecost, the rushing mighty wind and the tongues, as of fire, accompanied the true gift – being filled with the Holy Spirit .  In response to the filling of the Holy Spirit, those present (not only the twelve apostles) began to speak with other tongues. These were languages that they were never taught, and they spoke these languages, speaking as the Spirit gave them utterance. People from Galilee (Galileans) were known to be uncultured and poor speakers.   This was all the more reason to be impressed with their ability to speak eloquently in other languages. “Galileans had difficulty pronouncing gutturals and had the habit of swallowing syllables when speaking; so they were looked down upon by the people of Jerusalem as being provincial” (Longenecker).
