“One Cry, One Spirit”
Galatians 4:6 — The Spirit of His Son crying, “Abba! Father!”
“One Cry, One Spirit”
1️⃣ The Cry That Breaks Chains
This image shows Christ holding light and broken chains — a perfect visual of freedom and intimacy.
The golden light represents the Spirit of His Son, and the broken chains represent the bondage both Jews and Gentiles once lived under.
- For Jews: The chains were the Law’s demands — endless rules, sacrifices, and fear of failure.
- For Gentiles: The chains were idols, rituals, and fear of angry gods.
Now, through Christ, both hear the same cry rising from their hearts:
“Abba! Father!” — the sound of freedom and belonging.
2️⃣ Jewish Example — From Law to Love
Imagine a Jewish believer in Galatia who grew up memorizing commandments, offering sacrifices, and fearing impurity.
He knew God as holy, but not yet as Father.
When he received the Spirit, something changed — the relationship moved from obedience out of fear to obedience out of love.
Example:
Peter once feared breaking purity laws (Acts 10).
But when the Spirit came, he learned that God’s family included Gentiles too — love replaced fear.
3️⃣ Gentile Example — From Idols to Intimacy
Now picture a Gentile believer who once bowed to statues, offered sacrifices, and feared curses.
He knew gods who demanded payment, not relationship.
When the Spirit entered his heart, he discovered a Father who didn’t need appeasement — only trust.
Example:
The Philippian jailer (Acts 16) lived under Roman duty and pagan fear.
When he believed in Christ, he immediately rejoiced — the Spirit gave him peace and belonging.
4️⃣ The Shared Cry — “Abba! Father!”
Both Jew and Gentile now share the same Spirit and the same cry.
It’s not a learned prayer — it’s a spontaneous cry of identity.
The Spirit doesn’t teach vocabulary; He teaches relationship.
Key truth:
The same Spirit that cried “Abba” in Jesus now cries “Abba” in every believer — regardless of background.
5️⃣ Practical Application — Living as Sons, Not Slaves
- Stop trying to earn God’s favor — you already have it.
- Stop fearing rejection — you are adopted.
- Stop comparing yourself to others — you share the same inheritance.
- Let the Spirit remind you daily: you are loved, accepted, and free.
6️⃣ Teaching Reflection — The Cry That Unites
In Christ, the Spirit breaks every dividing wall — Law and idols, Jew and Gentile, fear and pride.
The cry “Abba! Father!” is the sound of unity — one family, one Spirit, one Father.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You that Your Spirit cries “Abba” in every heart — Jewish and Gentile, near and far.
Thank You for breaking the chains of fear and ritual.
Teach us to live as sons and daughters who know Your love and reflect Your light.
Amen.
